RETAIL EYE - TRENDS IN RETAIL AND POS

Every month we capture what is happening in retail – understanding key themes and trends for POS.  This snapshot guide helps to bring the high street to your desk monthly.

FOOTFALL

Different footfall monitors published on April 19 found that footfall across all shopping destinations was anywhere from 85.8% to 178.8% up on the previous week. Footfall recovery last week was strongest in shopping centres, which saw a large rise of 126.6%, while high streets reported a 93.2% upsurge. *  Across all retail destinations footfall was down 25.4% this week compared to the same week in 2019, with the gap even wider for high streets (34.9%) and shopping centres (27.9%).*

RE-OPENING

From 12th April, non-essential retail finally re-opened.  We saw a mix of happy welcoming messages, bright bold colours and many retailers encouraging us to look forward to warmer, brighter days ahead.

SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability remains a major trend across the high street.  As we become ever more conscious of our effect on the environment, retailers and brands are eager to communicate how they are working to reduce their own impact.
