RETAIL EYE - TRENDS IN RETAIL AND POS

Every month we capture what is happening in retail – understanding key themes and trends for POS.  This snapshot guide helps to bring the high street to your desk monthly.

FOOTFALL

For w/c 21st June regional cities saw footfall drop by 0.9% but footfall in market and coastal towns fell by 2.5% and 6.8% respectively.* The figures also show that the gap in footfall from 2019 in central London was 53.2% compared to a decline of 27.9% in regional cities.* The lack of uplift in footfall on a week-on-week basis means that the gap from 2019 widened for the third consecutive week.*

SPORT

June saw plenty of opportunity for the celebration of Sport to bring fun and theatre to stores. Wimbledon was featured in some retailers but the main focus was very much on the Euros with the Grocers in particular celebrating the competition.

EVENTS

Father’s Day was highlighted across retail.  There is a real feeling that this event was much bigger than normal – people are still looking for reasons to celebrate with family after a difficult year. June was also Pride month and many retailers highlighted this in their schemes.
