TRENDS FOR 2021 AND WHAT THEY MEAN FOR RETAIL AND POS

TREND 3: THE ENVIRONMENT

  • As the world slowed down in 2020, many began to question lifestyle choices and what is important for the future

  • IBM’s worldwide survey of 18,900 shoppers, published in June 2020 found that 57% of consumers are willing to change their purchasing habits to help reduce negative environmental impact. 71% of those that indicated that traceability is important are willing to pay a premium

  • The British Retail Consortium unveiled a climate action roadmap in November with the ambition that the industry should be carbon net zero by 2040

  • Speed of change is definitely of the essence – yet if 2020 has shown us anything, it is that we can all make monumental changes when needed

  • With COP26 in Glasgow in November and a push to ‘Build Back Greener’ it stands to reason that the Environment will stay at the forefront of the agenda for 2021
