RETAIL EYE - TRENDS IN RETAIL AND POS

Every month we capture what is happening in retail – understanding key themes and trends for POS.  This snapshot guide helps to bring the high street to your desk monthly.

FOOTFALL

Footfall across UK retail destinations declined by 0.3% over the month from June to July as the country was hit by rising interest rates, rainy weather, and ongoing rail disruption.* This compares to a rise of 3.7% over the month from May to June.* There was a month-on-month decrease in high street visits of 1.7% while shopping centres and retail parks saw respective uplifts of 1.7% and 0.7%.*

SPORT

This month saw activity around both the Women’s Football World Cup and Wimbledon. Interest in the women’s game is growing and with over 17 million people tuning in to watch the Euros final in 2022, it is no surprise to see brands and retailers get behind the team and encourage shoppers to create occasions at home.

SALE

Many retailers still had summer schemes in place (despite the somewhat disappointing weather) but for many, displays focused on Sale. Red and white colour schemes were in abundance but there were a few retailers who used their own branding to attract attention.
