RETAIL EYE - TRENDS IN RETAIL AND POS

Every month we capture what is happening in retail – understanding key themes and trends for POS.  This snapshot guide helps to bring the high street to your desk monthly.

FOOTFALL

Retail footfall in the UK for January 2024 declined by 2.8% year-on-year, according to data from the British Retail Consortium and Sensormatic IQ.  The figure shows a slight improvement from the 5% drop seen in the previous month.  The first half of the month was boosted by the January sales. However, the latter part of January saw fewer shoppers out as stormy weather led to a bigger footfall decline in shopping centres and high streets.

PRICE

As shoppers still look to manage their budgets effectively, price remains at the forefront of communication. Sales were also predominant in-store this month.

NEW YEAR

Healthier and No/Low alcohol brands were in evidence across the grocers as people looked to stick to those New Year’s resolutions. Across sports brands, we saw positive messaging to bring in    the new year.
