RETAIL EYE - TRENDS IN RETAIL AND POS

Every month we capture what is happening in retail – understanding key themes and trends for POS.  This snapshot guide helps to bring the high street to your desk monthly.

FOOTFALL

Total retail footfall in the UK for May 2022 fell by 12.5% on a year-on-three-years (Yo3Y) basis.* The data revealed that footfall for the month improved by 0.6% compared to April and is better than three-month average decline of 13.7%.* Footfall on high streets dropped by 13.6% in May (Yo3Y) but improved 3.6 percentage points compared to the previous month.*

PLATINUM JUBILEE

Retailers and brands geared up throughout May for the Platinum Jubilee celebrations. The Grocers had plenty of inspiration for Street Party entertaining and many other retailers took the opportunity to get into the spirit with fun window displays. In 2012, for the Diamond Jubilee, supermarkets enjoyed a 10% boost in sales during the week leading up to the festivities.**

CSR

Sustainability and charitable campaigns were also in evidence this month. This is a continuing trend we are seeing across retail and interesting to see how brands and retailers are communicating how they are looking to minimize their impact.
