RETAIL EYE - TRENDS IN RETAIL AND POS

FOOTFALL

•        According to Springboard footfall rose across UK retail destinations by 3.1% from Sunday 24 April to Saturday 30 April.

•        Shopping centres saw the most trade over the three days, with footfall ahead 9.4% week-on-week.*

•        Year-on-year, footfall in the week to 30 April was ahead 18.4% and down 15.1% when compared to 2019.*

•        Footfall during the period from Monday to Thursday (11 to 14 April) leading up to Easter rose from the week before by an average of 15%.*

•        Across Easter weekend itself (Friday, Saturday and Sunday), footfall dropped marginally by -0.1% versus the previous weekend.*

EASTER

•        Easter, and in particular chocolate treats, were highly visible across grocers and the high street.

•        According to Finder.com, three-quarters of Brits were projected to celebrate Easter in 2022. At 39.4 million people, this is an increase of almost 3 million more people celebrating compared to 2018 (36.6 million).

•        Overall, Easter spending is projected to reach £892 million in the UK, £82 million (10%) more than in 2021.**
