RETAIL EYE - TRENDS IN RETAIL AND POS

Every month we capture what is happening in retail – understanding key themes and trends for POS.  This snapshot guide helps to bring the high street to your desk monthly.

FOOTFALL

According to the British Retail Consortium footfall decreased by 13.7% during October compared to October 2019 – which shows a reduction on the three-month average decline of 16%. The figures were also ahead of Spain (-19.8%), Germany (-26.%), Italy (-34.6%) and France (-34.9%), for the same four-week period (October 3 – 31).* Retail park footfall is almost back at pre-pandemic levels, with numbers tracking just 0.4 per cent behind the same period in 2019.*

HALLOWEEN

According to The Drum research Halloween 2021 may be the first year where the UK spend on Halloween will surpass £500 million. The Drum also reported that the growth will increasingly be driven by millennials without children as much as families – this was reflected in our findings with many special products – particularly in the alcoholic drinks sector - being created for the occasion.

STORE FOCUS

A few stores caught our eye this month and we have featured them specifically. Stores highlighted are Uniqlo celebrating their 20th anniversary in the UK, Amazon’s physical store in Bluewater and Nike’s flagship focusing on their campaign ‘Play New’.
