RETAIL EYE - TRENDS IN RETAIL AND POS

Every month we capture what is happening in retail – understanding key themes and trends for POS.  This snapshot guide helps to bring the high street to your desk monthly.

FOOTFALL

Springboard reported that for the week commencing 18/09 footfall fell by 0.5% vs. 2021 and by 23.3% vs. 2019. Springboard are also predicting a decline overall in September of 4.9% month on month and a difficult run up to Christmas, given the economic backdrop, with month on month declines of 2.5% in October and 0.3% in November.

AUTUMN

The new season is upon us, and the colours associated with Autumn were introduced across retail. As the weather gets colder there was plenty of messaging suggesting shoppers wrap up to enjoy the outdoors. After a day embracing the outdoors, there were also suggestions for cosy nights in.

PRICE

With the on-going cost of living crisis, and high inflation affecting how people shop, the grocers remain focused on delivering every day low pricing (EDLP). This focus on EDLP seems to be resulting in less overall promotional activity.
